One of the keys to the desirability of the River North Community is its reputation as one of the safest neighborhoods in the city of Chicago. This does not happen by accident. It is the result of a successful partnership between Residents, Local Businesses, Community Organizations and Public Safety Officials. Late Hour Liquor Licensee Safety Plan Ordinance 4-60-130(f) requires all holders of late-hour liquor licenses to submit comprehensive safety plans to the DBA including exterior lighting and cameras, adequately trained security personnel and measures to reduce noise, loitering, littering, fighting, etc. DBA Bulletin. Late Hour Ordinance for Non-Liquor Businesses 4-113 requires non-liquor businesses to operate responsibly and avoid causing public nuisances between 12:00 and 5:00 am. DBA Bulletin.
Deleterious Impact Ordinance Enacted On March 11, 2007 the Department of Business Affairs and Licensing announced that a new ordinance took effect to provide communities with new tools to address negative impacts caused by local liquor establishments, and to provide hospitality business owners with an opportunity to improve their operations and avoid more costly administrative sanctions. CAPS (Chicago's Alternative Policing Strategy) The City of Chicago has a new weapon in the fight against crime -- and that new weapon is you, the community. A new partnership between police and community is the foundation of Chicago's own philosophy of community policing, known as CAPS -- Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy. Here in our neighborhood, Beat Meetings are held from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month at Erie Cafe, 536 West Erie Street. At these meetings, Police Officers, residents and local business representatives share information and ideas about public safety. 911 Emergency Services In Chicago, 911 is the connection to police, fire and Emergency Medical Services. The call takers and dispatchers at the 911 Center are highly trained, dedicated professionals who staff the Center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Chicago's 911 system has a 1.2 second call connection time, the Fastest Call Connection Time in the World! Automated mapping, computer aided dispatch and language interpretation services are among the special features that contribute to the effectiveness of our system. If citizens are in doubt about whether to call 911 or 311 (city services), they are encouraged to call 911. Trained operators will perform triage on each call and route it appropriately.
