Proposed Carroll Avenue Transitway
Project Overview The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is working with URS Corp. and Applied Real Estate Analysis, Inc. to conduct a study to help improve transit service, congestion and parking in the central area, particularly between the West Loop and the River North/North Michigan Avenue areas. The survey results will help the City of Chicago evaluate whether the potential transitway warrants further study and implementation. If built, both residents and businesses could significantly benefit through improved commute times, accessibility, and reduced congestion. The proposed new transitway would connect the West Loop, including the Union and Ogilvie train stations and the Clinton Street Green Line station, to the River North, North Michigan Avenue, Streeterville, and Navy Pier areas. The transitway would be for the exclusive use of public transit vehicles and would have stops/stations along the route for passengers to board/exit approximately every 2-4 blocks. Selected Estimated Travel Times
Transitway service will be offered every 3 minutes during peak times and every 7 minutes during off-peak times. No decisions have yet been made regarding the type, appearance or capacity of the public transit vehicles that will be used if this project is implemented Route Map A CDOT map showing the routes of the proposed transitway is available by clicking on the link below. Survey The River North Residents Association and the River North Association agreed to facilitate the solicitation and collection of feedback from the River North Community about the proposed transitway. The data was used to help identify potential ridership as well as to identify ways to improve general transit service, congestion and parking. Individual responses will be kept confidential and used only to determine how people travel within Chicago's central area. When the survey is concluded, the results will be summarized and made available to City Officials, RNRA Members and the consulting firms involved with the project. Two online surveys were created for this purpose: one for residents and one for employees or owners of River North businesses. The survey was closed on March 31, 2006. If you participated, thank you for your time and input. Please click on the links below to access the summary survey results.
